Robredo to attend Duterte's final SONA virtually

Vice President Leni Robredo has been invited to virtually attend President Rodrigo Duterte's sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 26 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, her camp said Monday.

"Vice President Leni received the invitation to attend the SONA last Friday. Similar to the previous year, she was not asked to be physically present, but to join via Zoom," Robredo's spokesperson, Barry Gutierrez, said.

"She will therefore be attending remotely," he added.

Earlier, the House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza said only fully-vaccinated individuals will be allowed to physically attend the SONA.  Around 350 people would be allowed inside the session hall during the President's address.

Robredo chairs the opposition Liberal Party.

Robredo was once appointed as housing czar by the President, but her tenure only lasted five months since she quit her post after being excluded from Cabinet meetings.

Robredo has also been appointed as co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal drugs in November 2019, but she was removed from the post after just 19 days.—LDF, GMA News
