6,560 more COVID-19 cases push active infections to 47,996

The Philippines registered 6,560 additional cases of the coronavirus disease, raising the country's total tally to 1,524,449, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

In its case bulletin, DOH said active cases in the country soared to 47,996 from 46,806 recorded on July 20. This as four laboratories failed to submit their data to DOH's COVID-19 system.

Of the total active cases, 92.1% were mild, 18% were asymptomatic, 1.6% critical, 2.6% severe and 1.84% moderate.

Thirty-two more COVID-19 patients succumbed to the illness, increasing the nation's fatality tally to 26,874.

Total recoveries went up to 1,449,579, with 5,364 new ones.

The country's health department again modified its COVID-19 data after removing 14 duplicated cases, including eight recoveries and two deaths.

Also, 30 cases previously classified as recoveries were reported as deaths after final validation, DOH said.

Philippine government earlier warned that some restrictions could be enforced again as eight active cases of the more contagious Delta variant were reported in the country.

DOH so far recorded a total of 35 Delta variant cases, including 11 local cases and three deaths. —LDF, GMA News
