Women's group to mobilize for VP Leni's possible presidential run in Eleksyon 2022

A group composed of women supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo will be launched this weekend to convince her to run for president in the 2022 elections.

The group, dubbed as Women for Leni, will gather members from various multi-sectoral organizations in a Kababaihan, Magkaisa virtual meeting on Saturday, July 24.

Bans Alqaseer, spokesperson of Women for Leni, said the event will be attended by women who share a common belief that Robredo is the only leader who genuinely understands and advocates for women's rights.

Speakers will include entrepreneur Nina Ellaine Dizon, actress/model Saab Magalona, and Alqaseer. They will represent women from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, respectively.

“Wala kaming nakikitang ibang kandidato na maaaring magsulong ng karapatan at kapakanan ng kababaihan kundi si VP Leni lang,” Alqaseer said in a statement, adding they believe Robredo shares the group’s various advocacies such as women's economic empowerment and women's rights all over the Philippines.

(We don't see any candidate who will push for women's rights except for Vice President Leni.)

"Women play a huge part in society, especially during this pandemic as they make up majority of healthcare workers putting their lives at stake in the frontlines. Women for Leni continues to demand for executive leadership that addresses the diverse needs of Filipino women,” Alqaseer said.

The online launch will be streamed via the Facebook page Women for Leni.

Robredo earlier said that her running for president in 2022 is not a matter of what she wants but what would be most beneficial to the country.

Her rating as of the last Pulse Asia survey is at 6%, which places her at sixth place among her potential rivals. --Llanesca T. Panti/KBK, GMA News
