3 dead, 1 missing due to Habagat effects —NDRRMC


At least three people died while one has gone missing amid the effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday.

In an update, the NDRRMC said one of the casualties is a 39-year-old female from Camp 8, Kennon Road in Baguio City who died in a vehicular accident involving a fallen tree on July 23.

The reports on the two other fatalities are still for validation, the NDRRMC noted.

In Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur, a 51-year-old male went missing due to a reported drowning incident. The search and rescue operations for him are still ongoing.

The NDRRMC said that three persons were reported injured due to the bad weather including the 63-year-old male and 29-year-old male in the July 23 vehicular accident in Baguio City.

Also, a 51-year-old male from a teacher's camp in Baguio was injured after a tree branch fell on him.

According to the NDRRMC, there are three more reported injured individuals that it is still validating.

At least 228,872 people or 57,037 families in 591 barangays were affected by the Habagat in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Cordillera, and Metro Manila.

Around 26,598 people or 7,431 families were staying inside evacuation centers, while 34,767 individuals or 7,595 families were staying outside evacuation facilities. — BM, GMA News
