Manila gov't flags 'crowded mall' post from Mocha Uson blog as 'fake news'

The Manila local government, through its Public Information Office, on Thursday flagged a fake post from the Mocha Uson blog, which claimed that a crowd was waiting outside a shopping mall in Manila.

A Facebook administrator of the blog showed a photo of a crowd wearing face masks outside the mall but failing to observe social distancing.

The blog also had a caption: "Yorme. Sa Maynila ganito kami, sa 2022 buong Pilipinas din sana (Mayor Isko Moreno, this is the case in Manila, we hope in 2022, this will happen across the country)."

But the local government said the mall in the photo turns out to be not based in Manila, but in Rizal.

"FAKE NEWS ALERT: Ang mall na nasa litrato ay hindi matatagpuan sa Lungsod ng Maynila (The mall in the photo is not located in Manila)," it wrote on Twitter.

It also asked the public to report the post as "fake news." The FB post has since been taken down.

Previously, Uson disclosed that her blog was composed of different administrators and bloggers. She made the clarification after the Mocha Uson Blog Facebook page published posts against Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto.

Moreno was set to join Sotto's party Aksyon Demokratiko, an official of the party earlier said. -MDM, GMA News
