14,749 new COVID-19 infections reported; active cases at 102,748


The Philippines reported 14,749 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, pushing the number of active cases in the country to 102,748.

This marks the second straight day that more than 14,000 new cases were recorded.

The Department of Health said the new cases brought the country's total COVID-19 case count to 1,741,616.

Of the 102,748 active cases, 95.9% are mild, 1.1% are asymptomatic, 0.93% are moderate, and 0.8% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 1,608,528 after 10,720 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll rose to 30,340 with 270 new fatalities.

The DOH said 364 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while five cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated as active cases.

A total of 141 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were also reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on August 13, while three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 70% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 51% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 71% of the ICU beds are in use, while 56% of the ventilators are utilized. — DVM, GMA News
