House to resume session next week — Velasco

The plenary sessions at the House of Representatives will resume next week, Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said Thursday.

Velasco confirmed to reporters that the session would resume on August 23, whether there will be an enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila or not.

Velasco said the setup would be hybrid.

The chamber had decided not to hold plenary sessions from August 6 to August 20 as the National Capital Region was placed under ECQ due to rising COVID-19 infections.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) is considering extending the ECQ in Metro Manila, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año earlier said.

The task force is also eyeing to instead place the region under modified ECQ.

ECQ is the strictest of all health protocols where only essential travels and services are allowed. Under the less restrictive MECQ, on the other hand, more businesses are allowed to open. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
