Ex-Las Piñas mayor Nene Aguilar passes away at 74

Former Las Piñas Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar passed away at 74, his wife announced Friday.

In a statement posted on Facebook, current Mayor Imelda Aguilar said her husband succumbed to a heart ailment at 4:12 a.m. at the St. Luke’s Medical Center — Global City.

“Nene, it paints all of us that you are no longer with us, but we know that you have accomplished your mission in this world, not only to your family and loved ones but to the hundreds of families you have served and supported throughout your years of service,” Imelda said.

Imelda said her husband’s 18 years of service would serve as her inspiration.

“Your years as the local chief executive have led to the unprecedented growth of our city. We will miss you very much,” she said.

“We invite our loved ones, friends, and all of the people of Las Piñas to remember him and celebrate his life and the love and joy he has imparted to all of us,” she added.

Aguilar served as mayor of Las Piñas City from 1995 to 2004 and from 2007 to 2016. Las Piñas became a city in 1997, during Aguilar's term.

Meanwhile, Imelda served as mayor from 2004 to 2007 and from 2016 until the present. — DVM, GMA News
