Record-high 19,441 new Philippine COVID-19 cases reported; active tally at 142,679


The Philippines on Saturday reported a new all-time high of 19,441 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,935,700, with three laboratories failing to submit data on time.

The previous highest daily case count of the country was recorded last Monday, August 23, with 18,332 cases.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the new infections on Saturday brought the country’s active cases to 142,679, also the highest since Friday.

Of these cases, 95.5% were mild, 1.8% were asymptomatic, 1.1% were severe, and 0.6% were in critical condition.

The DOH also announced 19,191 new recoveries, bringing the total number to 1,760,013.

Meanwhile, 167 new fatalities brought the death toll to 33,008.

A total of 202 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count. Of the said number, 191 are recoveries.

Meanwhile, 76 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after DOH’s final validation.

The DOH advised the public that the COVID-19 cases might increase in the following days.
