1Sambayan sees VP Leni, Isko as possible standard bearer in Eleksyon 2022, says Etta

A member of 1Sambayan on Monday said the opposition coalition is still "divided" when it comes to who will be their standard bearer in next year's election but said Vice President Leni Robredo and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno are contenders.

During an online conference on Martial Law commemoration, former Human Rights Commissioner Etta Rosales said they would decide on their candidates in the coming days.

"Kung titignan mo sa mayorya ng sektor within 1Sambayan, malakas yung... they are not... hindi sila isa lamang ang gusto. It is also divided. Malakas ang pro-VPL, Vice President Leni, pero mayroon ding Isko," said Rosales when asked about 1Sambayan's plans for the 2022 elections.

(If you look at it, majority of the sector within the group are not choosing only one candidate. It is also divided. Most of them wants Leni or Isko.)

"It is going to be an endorsement. We cannot come up with somebody kung halimbawa hindi naman pala siya tatakbo [if they won't run for the elections]," she added.

"It is a crazy world but this is something we are tackling within our own internal surveys."

Robredo has yet to decide on her election plans but said she is ready to become a unity candidate for the opposition.

Moreno, meanwhile, has yet to bare his plans buthas revealed that he had a meeting with Robredo and Senator Manny Pacquiao for the elections.

Pacquiao, however, already accepted the nomination of his party, PDP-Laban, to be their presidential candidate in the 2022 elections.

Meanwhile, Rosales also noted that the name of former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, is also being floated as a candidate in next year's elections. She hinted that Marcos is close with President Rodrigo Duterte whose administration is being rocked by corruption issue regarding procurement of medical supplies last year.

Rosales was among the victims of human rights violations during the Martial Law years under the leadership of the elder Marcos.

The former rights commissioner then reminded youth to vote for those with a good track record and not those who are leading in pre-election surveys. --KBK, GMA News
