Senate adopts resolution honoring ex-DSWD Sec. Dinky Soliman

The Senate on Wednesday adopted a resolution honoring the late former Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon "Dinky" Juliano-Soliman.

The resolution was filed by Senators Leila de Lima, Franklin Drilon, Francis Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros.

Senate Resolution 913 honors Soliman for her invaluable contributions to the field of social work and the country "as a distinguished public servant exemplified by her lifelong crusade to uplift the quality of life of the poorest and most vulnerable sectors of society."

Soliman passed away on Sunday due to complications from renal and heart failure. She was 68 years old.

Soliman served at the helm of DSWD during the term of former Presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, who also died this year.

During her term as DSWD chief, Soliman led the launch of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), which identifies who and where the poor Filipinos are through identification and validation.

Aside from serving in government, Soliman also held posts in several organizations such as Caucus for Development NGO Networks, National Secretariat Coordinator of the Congress for People’s Agrarian Reform, and Community Organization Training and Research Advocacy Institute (CO-TRAIN). — Ma.
