Cagayan de Oro improves to moderate risk for COVID-19 —OCTA Research

Cagayan de Oro City has improved to moderate risk for COVID-19 following a decline in its reproduction number, the number of people that each COVID-19 case can infect, to 0.57, the OCTA Research group reported on Saturday.

In its COVID-19 monitoring report, OCTA Research said new cases in Cagayan de Oro decreased by 39% to a seven-day average of 57 new cases per day, close to its pre-surge level.

Its average daily attack rate (ADAR) is currently at 7.8 per 100,000, lower than last week's 12.7 which is classified as high risk. ADAR refers to the percentage of population that contracts the disease.

The city's seven-day positivity rate — the percentage of those who test positive from the total number of people screened for the virus — was at 29%.

With the decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases, Cagayan de Oro City's hospital bed occupancy also decreased to the low level of 60%.

However, the city's ICU occupancy remained above critical level at 90%.

"The most likely reason is that surrounding regions are still dealing with the delta surge," OCTA Research's Dr. Guido David said.

The OCTA Research said there was an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental, now considered a high risk area.

Bukidnon also dealt with the Delta variant surge recently, but cases declined in Valencia City, Malaybalay City and the municipality of Quezon.

Despite this, Valencia is still at critical risk in its ADAR while Malaybalay and Quezon are still at high risk.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday said the country's total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 2,453,328 after 18,659 new infections were recorded.

The nation’s active cases went up to 175,324, the DOH added.

Total recoveries climbed to 2,240,599 with 9,088 new ones.

Meanwhile, the death toll remained at 37,405 after the DOH reported no new fatalities due to technical issues. —KG, GMA News
