Philippines posts 18,449 new COVID-19 infections; active cases at 158K


The Department of Health (DOH) reported 18,449 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, pushing the country's total case count to 2,509,177.

Of the new cases, 17,953 occurred from September 14 to 27, the DOH said.

It added the top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region with 3,060 or 17%, Region 4A with 2,465 or 14%, and Region 3 with 1,922 or 11%.

The new cases brought the country's active cases to 158,169, of which 78.7% are mild, 15.3% are asymptomatic, 1.7% are severe, and 0.8% are in critical condition.

The total recovery count increased to 2,313,412 after 21,811 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll rose to 37,494 with 93 new fatalities.

The DOH noted it will report backlog deaths in separate advisories.

 

 

The DOH said 130 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 227 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases.

A total of 117 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation, the DOH added.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on September 25, while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 75% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 54% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 77% of the ICU beds are in use, while 58% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
