De Lima accepts nomination as LP senatorial bet for Eleksyon 2022

Detained Senator Leila de Lima on Wednesday accepted her nomination as one of Liberal Party’s senatorial candidates for Eleksyon 2022.

“I humbly accept the nomination of the Liberal Party as one of the candidates for Senator in the 2022 elections,” De Lima said in a statement.

“I will not let prison and persecution stand in the way of the fight against Duterte's evil regime,” she added.

De Lima, a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, vowed that she along with other LP bets, will ensure that the “voice of the real opposition is heard in 2022.”

Meanwhile, a court handling one of her drug cases on Tuesday directed the prosecution to comment on De Lima’s plea to allow the taking of her Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance and certificate of candidacy photographs inside the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, not later than October 5.

De Lima also asked that her lawyers be allowed to notarize her candidacy papers, according to the order signed by Judge Romeo Buenaventura of the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 256.

Buenaventura gave the prosecution 48 hours from receipt of the order to file its comment.

On Tuesday, the Liberal Party nominated De Lima, LP president and Senator Francis Pangilinan, former Senator Bam Aquino as their Senate bets in next years elections.

The party also listed  Senator Risa Hontiveros of Akbayan and lawyer Chel Diokno as part of its initial list of guest senatorial candidates for being aligned with LP's principles. — Hana Bordey/RSJ, GMA News
