PDP-Laban Cusi wing formally expels Pacquiao from party

The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Tuesday formally expelled Senator Manny Pacquiao from the party due to the latter's supposed disloyalty and other party rule violations.

The notice of expulsion, dated October 4, was signed by PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag.

Matibag said Pacquiao merited expulsion since the latter filed his certificate of candidacy for president in the 2022 polls under the PROMDI party.

“The National Executive Committee passed a Resolution to expel you as member of PDP-Laban for violation of Section 6 Article 7 of the Party Constitution,” the notice read.

The PDP-Laban Cusi wing had nominated Senator Bong Go as its 2022 presidential candidate, but Go turned it down. Instead, Go filed his candidacy for vice president in the 2022 elections under the PDP-Laban Cusi wing.

The PDP-Laban Cusi wing had earlier asked the Commission on Elections to declare Pacquiao and Senator Koko Pimentel, the heads of the other PDP-Laban faction, as illegitimate party leaders but the poll body has yet to decide on the matter. — DVM, GMA News
