Robredo to make ‘important announcement’ ahead of last day of COC filing — spokesperson

Vice President Leni Robredo will make an "important announcement" on Thursday, a day before the deadline of the filing of candidacy for the 2022 national elections, her spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said Tuesday.

"Vice President Leni will make an important announcement this Thursday, October 7, at 11 a.m.,” Gutierrez said. "Please stay tuned.”

Gutierrez issued the statement on the same day that former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., whom Robredo defeated in the 2016 vice presidential race, announced his 2022 presidential bid.

Robredo was endorsed last week by the opposition coalition 1Sambayan as its presidential candidate. She thanked the group for the nomination and asked the public to join her in praying that “our decision will be what is best for our country.”

She earlier met with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Senator Manny Pacquiao separately in an attempt to form a united opposition ticket, but these talks did not prosper with Moreno and Pacquiao already declaring that they will run for president.

Robredo’s political career began in 2013 when she won as Camarines Sur representative. She then won a tight race for the vice presidency in 2016. — VBL, GMA News
