Eleazar: Crime index declined, crime solution improved in last 5 years

Philippine National Police chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday said the crime index has decreased while crime solution increased in the country during the last five years.

At the Laging Handa briefing, Eleazar said the crime index declined by 64%.

“Kung kinumpara natin iyong sa crime prevention natin, kung dati noong first five years ay umabot 1.1 million itong naitalang index crime, ay ngayon ay umaabot na sa 400,000,” he said.

(If we would compare our crime prevention, 1.1 million of index crime was recorded in the first five years, but now it is only at 400,000.)

Eleazar added that the crime solution also improved from 26%, which means one case is solved out of four cases, to 49%, which means one case is solved out of two.

“Doon naman sa pangalawang function natin na crime solution, tumaas po ng 86% (In our second function crime solution, it went up by 86%),” he said.

Eleazar attributed the improvement to the support of the government. — RSJ, GMA News
