4,806 new COVID-19 infections reported; active cases at 65K


The Department of Health on Thursday announced 4,806 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the total number of infections in the country to 2,740,111.

According to the DOH the new cases brought the country's active case count to 65,835, of which 78.7% are mild, 6.2% are asymptomatic, 4.6% are severe, and 2% are in critical condition.

Based on the analysis of the GMA News Research team, the weekly average daily new cases in the country is returning to the pre-surge level.

From the peak 20,574 daily new COVID-19 cases in September, the average new infections per day in the previous week decreased to 6,452.

Total recoveries also increased to 2,633,039 after 5,934 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll climbed to 41,237 with 260 new fatalities.

 

 

The DOH noted that 64 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 175 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on October 19 and were able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Latest data from the DOH also showed that 58% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 42% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

In the National Capital Region, 52% of the ICU beds are in use, while 37% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
