Philippines records 5,823 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 66K


The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday recorded 5,823 new COVID-19 cases, as two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The new infections brought the nationwide tally to 2,745,889. Active cases stood at 66,838.

Of these cases, 79.1% are mild, 6.1% are asymptomatic, 8.33% are moderate, 4.6% are severe, and 1.9% are in critical condition.

 

 

Total recoveries climbed by 4,748 to 2,637,531, while 283 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 41,520.

Data also showed that 56% of 4,200 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 42% of the 14,800 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 39% of the 4,200 ward beds in the National Capital Region (NCR) were in use.

Based on the latest report, the DOH said all laboratories were operational since October 20, while there were two laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The health department reported 45 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 36 are recoveries.

Meanwhile, at least 220 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

A total of 5,781 adolescents aged 15 to 17 years old with comorbidities have been vaccinated against COVID-19, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said on Friday.

The DOH estimates there are around 1.2 million children nationwide with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 years.—LDF, GMA News
