Ex-PSG member shot dead in Manila

A former member of the Presidential Security Group was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in Santa Ana, Manila on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Gilbert Fabro, also a former police officer with the rank of police staff sergeant, according to a "24 Oras Weekend" report by Mai Bermudez on Saturday.

CCTV footage showed Fabro entering the driver's side of a white van in front of a restaurant on Tejeron Street in Barangay 783 on Thursday past 1 p.m.

The victim was with alias "Sky," a friend who was also a former policeman.

A closed delivery truck parked beside the white van a short while later.

A man with a cap then came, pulled and loaded his gun then fired at Fabro.

The gunman immediately fled afterward, as the victim sustained gunshot wounds in the body.

Fabro was rushed to the Santa Ana Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

According to Fabro's wife, he received death threats after he was allegedly accused of being involved in illegal activities while still in the service.

"2019, nagpumilit siya patunayan sa sarili niya, 'Kung guilty ako, magtatago ako eh. Hindi ako guilty.' Ang sabi, illegal activities. Ang akin lang, tinanong namin, illegal activities, anong klase? Hindi nila kami binigyan ng detalye," Fabro's wife said.

(In 2019, he insisted on proving to himself, 'If I'm guilty, I will hide. I'm not guilty.' The suspects said it was due to illegal activities. We asked what kind of illegal activities. They did not give us details.)

Fabro went AWOL in 2019 due to the allegations.

"Dahil trained naman siya, naramdaman niyang may sumusunod sa kaniya palagi. Kung saan-saang shortcut na raw siya dumadaan para lang iligaw 'yung sumusunod," Fabro's wife said.

(Since he was trained, he could feel that someone was always following him. He took different shortcuts just to divert the people following him.)

Three .45 shells were recovered at the crime scene.

The Manila Police District is investigating whether the killing was work-related. — Jamil Santos/DVM/KG, GMA News
