5,279 new Philippine COVID-19 cases reported; active cases at 60,957


The Philippine Health Department on Sunday reported 5,279 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the country’s total active cases to 60,957.

Data released by the DOH indicated that the majority of the cases or 77.5% were mild, 9.20% were moderate, 6.1% were asymptomatic, 5.1% were severe, and 2.1% were critical.

The latest figures brought the total tally to 2,756,923 which includes 2,654,173 recoveries, equivalent to 96.3% of the caseload, of which 7,312 were new.

There were 208 additional fatalities to bring the death toll to 41,793 or 1.52%.

The same data from the DOH indicated that in terms of hospital utilization, intensive care unit beds nationwide were 53% utilized, isolation beds by 41%, ward beds by 38%, and ventilators by 37%.

In the National Capital Region, 46% of intensive care unit beds are utilized, isolation beds at 35%, ward beds at 34%, and ventilators at 35%.

The latest figures exclude data from two laboratories that failed to submit results on time. Historical data show that these laboratories contributed 0.3% to all the samples tested and 0.8% to all the positive cases in the past two weeks. — DVM, GMA News
