DOH: 9,928 minors with comorbidities vaccinated vs. COVID-19

A total of 9,928 minors with comorbidities have been vaccinated against COVID-19 so far, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

“Ito naman po ay kino-consider na natin that it was successful, no? Naging maayos po ‘yung ating mga proseso,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario said in a media briefing.

(We consider this successful, no? The process was orderly.)

Meanwhile, Vergeire said that should the two phases of the pediatric vaccination be successful, it will be expanded to other regions.

“So ‘yan po ay pinagplaplanuhan, pinag-uusapan na at magbibigay tayo ng information in the coming days,” she said.

(This is being planned and talked about. We will give more details in the coming days.)

Reactions

Vergeire said 10 adolescents had experienced reactions to the vaccines.

“Tatlong mga bata ay nagkaroon ng allergic reactions but all were managed. Tatlo po ay nagkaroon ng anxiety-related reactions, at ‘yung apat po mga minor lang po,” she said.

(Three experienced allergic reactions but all were managed, three experienced anxiety-related reactions, while four had minor reactions.)

“So far, wala pa po tayong serious at adverse reactions that were noted,” she added.

(So far, we have yet to record a serious or adverse reaction.)

Vergeire assured that the DOH is continuously monitoring the situation of the minors.

“Katulad ng sabi natin, hindi lang natapos ang monitoring namin pagkatapos lang ng bakunahan. We will monitor them for this whole month para makita natin if there will still be other reactions na mangyayari,” she said.

(Like we said, the monitoring does not end after the vaccination. We will monitor them for the whole month to observe if there will still be other reactions.)

The agency previously said children seeking vaccination must get a clearance from their doctors as well as give their consent and assent.

Meanwhile, those with medical conditions such as medical complexity, genetic condition, neurologic conditions, metabolic or endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV Infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory disease, renal disorders, and hepatobiliary disease, and those who are immunocompromised due to disease or treatment are eligible for vaccination. —KG, GMA News
