Philippines logs 4,405 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 57K


The Philippines on Monday recorded 4,405 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the country's total active infections to 57,763.

This is the lowest active case count since the 56,273 tally on July 29.

The Department of Health said the new cases raised the country's total COVID-19 caseload to 2,761,307.

Of the 57,763 active cases, 76.2% are mild, 6.5% are asymptomatic, 5.3% are severe, and 2.3% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, rose to 2,661,602 with 7,561 new ones.

The death toll climbed to 41,942 with 149 new fatalities.

The DOH said 21 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 118 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on October 23, while five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Further, data from the DOH also showed that 52% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 46% of the ICU beds are in use, while 32% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
