Philippines' 3,218 new COVID-19 cases lowest daily tally since May

The Department of Health on Wednesday reported 3,218 new COVID-19 infections, raising the country's total case count to 2,768,849, as one laboratory failed to submit data on time.

The new infections was the lowest recorded since the 3,083 cases on May 23.

According to the DOH, the new cases brought the country's active caseload to 50,152, of which 73.4% are mild, 6.8% are asymptomatic, 6.2% are severe, and 2.6% are in critical condition. This is the lowest active caseload since July.

Total recoveries climbed to 2,676,349 after 6,660 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll rose to 42,348 with 271 new fatalities.

The DOH said 41 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 227 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH also showed that 51% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 34% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 42% of the ICU beds are in use, while 31% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
