Philippines reports 2,303 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 8 months


The Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,303 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total confirmed infections in the Philippines to 2,792,656, as eight laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This is the lowest daily number of infections reported since the 2,067 tally on March 2.

The DOH said the new cases brought the total active cases in the country to 40,786, of which, 71.2% are mild, 5.1% are asymptomatic, 7.5% are severe, and 3.2% are in critical condition. This is the lowest active case count since the 39,330 on March 8.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries rose to 2,708,466 after 4,677 more patients recovered from the viral disease.

The death toll climbed to 43,404 with 128 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 22 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 106 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH showed that 46% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 32% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 40% of the ICU beds are in use, while 30% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
