Philippines reports 1,766 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 37K


The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 1,766 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, marking the second consecutive day where less than 2,000 cases were reported.

According to the DOH, this brought the nationwide tally to 2,795,642.

Meanwhile, while active cases further decreased to 37,159.

Of this, 68.9% are mild, 5.3% are asymptomatic, 8.2% are severe, and 3.5% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 2,714,658 with 2,591 new ones while 239 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 43,825.

Twenty-two duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count while 214 cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths.

Only two laboratories failed to submit data on time.

Data also showed that 43% of the 4,000 ICU beds nationwide are in use while 37% of the total 1,400 ICU beds in the National Capital Region (NCR) are occupied.

Meanwhile, 28% of the 14,100 ward beds in the Philippines are being utilized while 28% of the 4,000 ward beds in NCR are in use.

The OCTA Research group earlier announced that the National Capital Region has reversed the surge of the highly contagious Delta variant.

According to the DOH, the country has logged a total of 5,331 Delta cases.—LDF, GMA News
