The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday reported nine more cases of COVID-19 among its personnel, bringing the total number to 42,047.

In an update, the PNP said 41,661 have already recovered from the disease, while 261 are still active cases.

The death toll in the police organization remained at 125.

According to the PNP, the latest fatality was a 54-year-old senior police officer assigned to a national support unit in Bicol.

The cop tested positive for COVID-19 in an RT-PCR test on November 1, and died in a hospital on November 8 while undergoing treatment due to the disease and hypertension.

“It is with a heavy heart that I express the deepest condolences of the PNP to the orphaned family of the PNP’s 125th COVID-19 fatality,” PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said.

Around 91.27% or 204,728 of PNP personnel are fully vaccinated while 7.50% or 16,833 personnel have received their first doses.

Only 1.23% or 2,751 of PNP personnel have yet to be inoculated, the PNP said. —LBG, GMA news
