Pinay in Singapore gets three weeks in jail for attempted bribery after caught littering

A  Filipina was sentenced to three weeks in jail on Monday in Singapore after she attempted to bribe two police officers who apprehended her for littering last year, a newspaper said.

According to Singapore publication The Straits Times, 26-year old Prisbelle Pascua Abalos admitted to attempting to bribe officers Corporal Fatin Hazirah Mustaffa and Staff Sergeant Yves Yeo Mingshu.

On August 22 last year, the two caught Abalos, who was visiting Singapore, throwing her cigarette butt near Orchard Towers.

The Straits Times reported that at that time, Abalos was smoking along with three other Filipinos near the main entrance of Orchard Towers around 1:45 a.m.

As the police officers asked the party for their identification papers, Fatin saw Abalos throw a cigarette butt on the floor. She was warned to pick it up, which Abalos promptly did.

However, as her friend went to retrieve the group's passports left at a bar in the building, Abalos threw the cigarette butt on the floor again, resulting in Fatin telling her that she would be issued a summons for littering.

"As Abalos could not remember her Singapore address, she was allowed to get her handbag. She then told the officers that she was unable to find her address and instead, took out a wallet and gave two $10 bills to the officers, telling them to 'go downstairs have food and drink,'" the Straits Times said. - Gian C.
