Kenneth Cobonpue named Asian Designer of the Year

Kenneth Cobonpue, the world renowned Filipino industrial designer, has been named Asian Designer of the Year by Maison&Objet Asia Paris.

Cobonpue, who hails from Cebu, bested nominees from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, according to a report on GMA News' "24 Oras" Tuesday.

Maison&Objet Asia described Cobonpue's trademark as a combination of local craftsmanship and materials, and the most innovative technologies.



"He infuses new life into traditional Filipino techniques and in particular rattan weaving, a material that has become a major element in the universe of Kenneth Cobonpue," it said.

"His ecodesign has earned him international acclaim," it added, noting that Cobonpue was the set designer for the Steven Soderbergh cult film Ocean’s Eleven. — KBK, GMA News
