OCD: Flash floods hit Sultan Kudarat; 50 families evacuated

At least 50 families were evacuated from their homes after flash floods hit their neighborhood in Isulan in Sultan Kudarat province Wednesday night, officials said.

The Office of Civil Defense Region 12 said the floods hit at about 10 p.m. in the Purok Riverside area, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.

OCD-12 assistant regional director Jerome Barranco was quoted in the report as saying they have so far received no information of casualties.

Barranco said Philippine National Police and Philippine Army operatives helped bring the residents to safer ground.

The families were staying at the Isulan Municipal Gymnasium as of Thursday morning, the report said.

Local disaster management authorities theorized the floods may have come from a nearby river in South Cotabato, since there had been no heavy rain recently. — RSJ, GMA News
