Part of missing PAF OV-10 plane found off Palawan

A part of an OV-10 aircraft of the Philippine Air Force that was missing since Sunday night was found off Palawan province Monday morning.

The Philippine Coast Guard cited initial information the part appeared to be the nose of the aircraft, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.

Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo cited initial reports indicating the part was found about one nautical mile from the site where the plane was believed to have crashed.

He said the Coast Guard's Search and Rescue Vessel (SARV) 3503 was heading for the area to verify the information.

Earlier Monday, Air Force spokesman Col. Miguel Okol said one of two PAF OV-10 Bronco aircraft went missing after a night proficiency flight Sunday.

He said the aircraft went missing three to four nautical miles from the end of the runway of Puerto Princesa Airport in Palawan.

“One of them failed to land ... We are continuing the search this morning,” he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

He said the missing aircraft was equipped with a tracking system, adding the weather conditions Sunday night in the area were “favorable.”

Okol said the OB-10s are used as close air support aircraft, to support ground troops. They are also used for maritime patrol, he said. —KG, GMA News
