Tension mars Palawan barangay poll registration over alleged irregularities

Tension marred the registration for the Oct. 28 barangay elections in Palawan late Wednesday as would-be registrants claimed irregularities in the encoding of registration forms.

At least two Commission on Elections personnel were invited for questioning for allegedly encoding forms delivered by a yellow vehicle, radio dzBB's James Viernes reported Thursday.

Many would-be registrants also stayed near the Comelec office to keep watch against possible supposed irregularities.

Local authorities secured the Comelec office in Palawan following the tension.

The registration period for the Oct. 28 elections ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with the Comelec rejecting calls for an extension of the registration.

Many Filipinos had spent Tuesday night outside Comelec offices in hopes of being able to register at the last minute.
