PHIVOLCS reports new explosion on Mount Bulusan

Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon province exploded anew Friday afternoon and spewed a plume of ash.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the explosion occurred shortly before 3 p.m.

PHIVOLCS senior scientist Paul Alanis told dzBB radio the steam-driven explosion sent an ash plume 1.5 kilometers into the air.

Alanis said the ash drifted west-southwest, while an ash cloud was observed that he said could indicate pyroclastic flow.

The Bicol Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council posted a photo of the explosion taken by the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
