Student killed in Manaoag not on Pangasinan’s drug watch list —PNP

The family of the mass communication student who was recently found dead in Barangay Parian in Pangasinan is seeking justice for her death, Cesar Apolinario reported on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.

Rowena Tiamson, 22, was found dead at Barangay Parian, Manaoag, Pangasinan with her hands bound both eyes and mouth sealed with cloth and tape. Police supposedly found drugs on on Rowena's corpse, a fact her mother, Tere, denied.

"Naku, hindi po, Diyos ko naman. Hindi po totoo yan. Hindi po totoo yan na magdo-droga yung anak ko," Tiamson's mother said.

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office confirmed that the college student was not on its anti-illegal drugs watch list.

"Yung kanilang initial report ay wala... wala sa watch list sa buong Pangasinan," said Superintendent Jackie Candelario.

"Titingnan talaga natin baka mamaya meron siyang mga kasama na involved sa ipinagbabawal na gamot," the officer added.

Rowena was a scholar and choir member who would have graduated with a degree in mass communication on October.

Rowena's mother said she was willing to have the body of her daughter tested for drugs to prove that she was not a user.

"Hindi po gagawin ni Rowena 'yan kasi mabait po siya," Tiamson said.

According to GMA News data, 339 drug-related deaths have been recorded from June 30 until Wednesday noon.

Of these, 212 were deaths from police operations and 119 from shootouts.

Twenty suspects allegedly resisted arrest while four tried to snatch guns away from arresting officers.

About 194 of the 212 suspects killed in police operations were allegedly armed.

Police were unable to identify the gun type 115 suspects wielded. About 47 carried .38 caliber guns, 17 had .45 guns, and four possessed grenades. —Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
