KADAMAY members continue to occupy idle housing units in Bulacan

Members of a militant urban poor workers' group continued to occupy the idle government housing project in Pandi, Bulacan, GMA News’ Mav Gonzales said in an Unang Balita report on Monday.

Some 1,000 members of the Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) stayed inside 419 housing units in Pandi Residences 3, the report said.

Barricades put up by the occupants around the resettlement area were still standing, with placards stating that the housing project is free and for the masses.

Meanwhile, some of the houses were padlocked and covered with curtains.

At around 11 a.m. on Sunday, KADAMAY members also forcibly entered Pandi Village 2.

The private subdivision was barricaded as its developer has yet to turn it over to the National Housing Authority (NHA).

But the group was able to get through the barricades by passing through the nearby field.

According to the police, around 5,000 individuals are currently occupying housing units in six different sites.

These include the PNP/AFP Housing, BJMP/BFP Housing, Villa Elise, Pandi Residences 3, Pandi Village 2, and Padre Pio.

NHA personnel are expected to arrive to the resettlement area on Monday morning for the profiling.

Police forces, meanwhile, are on standby should any commotion occur between KADAMAY members and the NHA.

Malacañang is also expected to meet with the NHA and the developers of the housing projects on Monday morning. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
