Town in Cagayan under state of calamity due to storm Odette

The Allacapan town in Cagayan province has been declared in state of calamity after heavy rains from Tropical Storm Odette caused flooding in all of the municipality's 27 barangays.

Odette struck the province hardest on Thursday with its strong winds and heavy rains, leaving the town's barangays soaking in floodwater.

Initial estimates on damage indicate that half of the 9,680 hectares of the town's farmlands have been flooded since Thursday, according to Mayor Harry Florida.

Also he said that three overflow bridges were submerged in floodwater, blocking traffic flow.

Aside from three bridges, the Abusag bridge in Baggao and the Tawi bridge in Peñablanca were also flooded. —Villamor Visaya Jr/LBG, GMA News
