Kerwin Espinosa’s lawyer killed in ambush

Ronda town vice mayor Jonah John Ungab has been pronounced dead after he was ambushed by unidentified assailants in Cebu City just before noon Monday.

Ungab, who is also the lawyer of suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, was shot twice in the head.

A Super Radyo dzBB report said the attack happened outside a hotel in the North Reclamation Area at around 11:50 a.m.

The report said Ungab had just attended a hearing on Espinosa's illegal possession of firearms case at the Cebu City Hall of Justice at the Qimonda IT Center in the same area, and had been accompanied by his wife.

Ungab was driving a Suzuki Ciaz when two gunmen on a motorcycle fired at him.

Cebu City Police Office Police Senior Inspector Jonathan Taneo said that the police are still retrieving CCTV footage from the crime scene to get the motorcycle's plate number.

"Isa lang po siya na bumaril tapos sumakay na po siya ng motor...naka-abang po," Taneo told GMA News Online.  — BM, GMA News
