Koko Nograles designated as caretaker of 1st District of Davao City

PBA party-list Representative Jericho "Koko" Nograles has been designated as the legislative caretaker of the first district of Davao City after his brother, former Representative Karlo Nograles, was appointed as Cabinet Secretary.

"In the interest of the people of the 1st District of Davao City, the Honorable Jericho Jonas B. Nograles is hereby designated as legislative caretaker of the 1st District of Davao City effective immediately," read the memorandum issued by Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In a statement, Jericho thanked Arroyo for the trust and confidence she gave him to take over his brother's former legislative district, noting that the has always been active in constituency work in Davao City.

Although he would be running again as a nominee of the PBA party-list, Jericho vowed that he would fulfill the commitments his brother made before the end of the 17th Congress.

"Even before the appointment of my brother as Cabinet Secretary, I have always served the first district of Davao City, so I'm really happy that I was chosen by Speaker Arroyo and my colleagues as the legislative caretaker of my home district," Jericho said.

"Even with only a few months left before the election season, there's still a lot to be done for the District and I'm fully committed to fulfill this new mandate," he added.

Karlo, who served as chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations, took his oath as Cabinet Secretary on November 5, replacing Leoncio "Jun" Evasco Jr.

Evasco resigned from his post as he is seeking to become Bohol governor in next year's midterm polls. — RSJ, GMA News
