One dead in landslide in Apayao after monsoon rains


A man died after a landslide occurred in Apayao on Saturday morning, the Office of Civil Defense-Cordillera Administration Region said.

The fatality was identified as Alvin Alamin, 23, of Barangay Eva in the municipality of Calanasan.

According to the OCD, the landslide occurred in Sitio Gattaban, Barangay Naguilian in Calanasan due to rains from the northeast monsoon.

The victim, together with two other companions Roy Paloy and Floriefe Anguluan, were on board separate motorcycles and going through a mudflow on the Cagayan-Calanasan, Apayao Road at the time of the incident.

Paloy went ahead first then warned the victim about the mudflow.

However, the victim was hit by falling debris from a landslide, throwing him 100 meters down a ravine.

Rescuers from the local police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office retrieved the victim's body.

The victim's remains were brought to the Apayao Provincial Hospital for proper dispositive action. —KG, GMA News
