Marinduque vice gov takes oath as new governor

Vice Governor Romulo Bacorro Jr. on Tuesday took his oath as the new governor of Marinduque province following the death of Governor Carmencita Reyes.

Bacorro took his oath in Boac before Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Jay Velasco.

Speaking before provincial hall employees, Bacorro encouraged cooperation among them and urged them to help him run the province.

"Sana po sa transition period, sa lahat ng department head, ako po ay nakikiusap sa inyo, sana ay tulungan po ninyo ako kasi maliit po, maikli po 'yung limang buwan, hindi ko po kakayanin ito kapag wala kayo," he said.

Bacorro will serve as governor until the May elections when the province will elect a new leader.

Under the Constitution, the vice governor is the successor if ever the governor resigns or dies.

Reyes, 87, died on Monday due to stomach aneurysm, according to her relatives. —Paul Jaysent Fos/KBK, GMA News
