2 suspects lob grenades at Cotabato City judge's home

Two motorcycle-riding suspects lobbed grenades at the home of a Cotabato City judge Sunday night, just hours before polling precincts were to open for the Bangsamoro Organic Law plebiscite.

Judge Angelito Rasalan was preparing for bed at around 9 p.m. when he heard loud thumps on his roof.

Rasalan thought nothing of the matter, but the thumps were quickly followed by two explosions as the tossed grenades, one of which landed on a neighbor's roof, detonated.

No one was harmed by the blasts, though several windows were smashed.

According to Cotabato Station 2 commander Chief Inspector Efren Salazar, the bomb squad had recovered a safety pin and grenade lever from the scene, which suggested two grenades were used in the attack on the judge.

Rasalan meanwhile believed that the attack had something to do with his objections over Cotabato City's inclusion in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

Though his friends had warned him that his life could be in danger because of his opposition, Rasalan was nevertheless undaunted and would continue to voice his objections. —Ian Cruz/DVM, GMA News
