NIA engineer shot dead in Maguindanao

KIDAPAWAN CITY — A top official of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) was shot dead by motorcycle-riding suspects on Tuesday afternoon in Maguindanao, police said Wednesday.

Maguindanao Police Provincial Office chief Senior Superintendent Magzali Mukaram identified the victim as Engr. Joseph Adam, former municipal engineer of Datu Montawal and currently the NIA engineer assigned to the Malitubog-Maridagao Irrigation Project (MALMAR) in Pikit.

The police said the victim was driving his car from Pikit on his way home in Kabacan when shot several times by the suspects at Barangay Pagagawan in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao using a caliber 45 pistol.

Adam sustained multiple gunshot wounds, making him lose control of his vehicle, which hit the concrete electric post beside the Cotabato-Davao highway.

Bystanders tried to rush Adam in the nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Police in Datu Montawal said the killing may have been due to a family feud or was work-related, and is already conducting an investigation. —Williamor Magbanua/KBK, GMA News
