Jolo placed under lockdown after cathedral bombing


Security forces placed Sulu province's Jolo town under a lock-down after twin-blasts killed 20 people at the Mount Carmel Cathedral on Sunday.

Under the rules of the lockdown, staring January 28, no one, other than police officers, servicemen, and government officials, would be allowed to enter Jolo.

Security had also been tightened across the entire of Sulu, with checkpoints across the province reinforced and on high alert.

Aside from Jolo, security forces were also on high alert in the cities of Isabela and Lamitan in Basilan province.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte was expected to arrive in Jolo on Monday to visit those injured in the bombing.

Authorities said that an Abu Sayyaf subgroup, the Ajang-Ajang group, were likely be behind the Jolo attack.Peewee Bacuño/DVM, GMA News
