NDFP peace consultant shot dead in Nueva Vizcaya

A peace consultant of the communist-led National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) was shot dead inside a passenger bus in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya, early Wednesday morning.

A report on Dobol B sa News TV by dzBB's Jonathan Andal identified the victim as Randy Felix Malayao.

Citing information from Nueva Vizcaya police director Senior Superintendent Jermias Aglugub, Malayao was killed between 2 to 2:30 a.m. while the Isabela-bound bus he was riding was on a stopover.

When the bus driver and other passengers left the bus, the suspect then entered and shot the peace consultant.

A police incident report stated that there were two perpetrators of the crime who boarded a black Yamaha Mio to escape.

Authorities were able to recover one fired bullet and two pieces of fired cartridge case in the crime scene.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing.

Malayao's body was immediately brought to Everlasting Funeral Homes at Poblacion.

Meanwhile, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) secretary general Renato Reyes condemned the killing of Malayao, saying it was "a case of extrajudicial killing done by suspected state forces."

"We see no other motive and possible perpetrator. His death is clearly linked to his involvement in the peace talks and his other advocacies as a social activist," Reyes said.

Reyes stressed that Malayao's death came after President Rodrigo Duterte terminated the peace negotiations and vowed an "all-out war" against communists.

On Tuesday, Duterte remarked that there will be no more peace talks with the communist rebels, just weeks after he said he was open to revive the peace negotiations—Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
