6 NPA rebels killed in CamSur clash —military

Six communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with government security forces in Camarines Sur, the military said Wednesday.

The soldiers launched an operation in Barangay Lupi in the town of Tinambac after receiving information on the rebels' presence in the area, according to Captain Joash Pramis of the Army's 9th Infantry Division.

"Based on the report we got, the rebels were there to conduct their mass work, dialogue for recruitment and other activities, to include the extortion of money from the residents," he said.

A 20-minute clash occurred after the soldiers caught up with about 15 rebels, Pramis  said.

Troops were able to recover the bodies of the six fatalities, as well as six M14 rifles, a grenade launcher and several subversive documents.

No one was killed or injured on the side of the military.

The military has intensified its operation against the NPA since President Duterte terminated the peace talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines two years ago. —KBK, GMA News
