Talipao residents march for peace a week after Jolo attacks

Some 3,000 residents on Saturday participated in a peace rally organized by the Talipao local government in Sulu less than a week after two explosions rocked the Jolo cathedral.

At a program, Talipao Mayor Nivocadnezar Tulawie said both Christians and Muslims suffer from the effects of the terrorist activities by such groups as the Abu Sayyaf.

He called on ASG members to lay down their arms and surrender to the government.

Participants in the peace march burned pictures of suspected ASG members.

Members of the 11th Infantry Division of the Army, led by General Divino Pabayo, and the 2nd Special Forces Battalion watched over the conduct of the rally. —Peewee Bacuño/NB, GMA News
