12 barangays in Pigkawayan, 7 in Carmen, 2 in Aleosan to be included in Bangsamoro region

At least 21 barangays in Cotabato have secured their place in the new Bangsamoro autonomous region, partial results announced by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) indicated on Thursday.

According to GMA News' Sandra Aguinaldo on report for "24 Oras," 12 barangays from Pigkawayan, seven from Carmen and two from Aleosan in North Cotabato have surpassed the threshold for a double majority to be included in the new Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The 'yes' vote won in two other barangays in Aleosan but did not reach the required number of votes to meet the double majority rule.

A barangay in Tulunan town also had the same fate when it didn't get the needed votes for the double majority.

The Commmission on Elections in Region 12 said the voter turnout in North Cotabato was 54 percent. Its average turnout for regular elections was more than 80 percent. —Margaret Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
