Boy killed in Northern Samar IED blast blamed on NPA rebels


A  nine-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by an improvised explosive device allegedly lobbed by communist rebels in Las Navas, Northern Samar on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Armando Remolde, resident of Barangay San Miguel, Las Navas.

A military report said the incident happened at 9:40 a.m. while troops from  20th Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol in Barangay San Miguel to check on alleged presence of the New People’s Army rebes in the area.

No other casualties were reported.

Major General Raul Farnacio, commander of the 8th Infantry Division, condemned the incident, noting it happened when the people were having reunions with family members and observing the Holy Week.  —Amita Legaspi/KBK, GMA News
