Matthew Manotoc set to replace mom Imee Marcos as new Ilocos Norte governor

Matthew Marcos Manotoc is set to be proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday as the new governor of Ilocos Norte replacing his mother Imee Marcos, GMA News’ Cata Tibayan reported.

Manotoc emerged as winner of the elections after rival Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Rodolfo Fariñas withdrew his candidacy for governor in the province over a week ago.

Manotoc's ally Cecilia Araneta-Marcos also led in the election against Michael Ramones for the vice mayor post. Araneta-Marcos was the substitute candidate for husband Mariano Marcos II who died in February.

Ria Fariñas is also set to replace her father Rodolfo as Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative after leading the poll against Ryan Remigio.

Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Eugenio Angelo Marcos Barba, meanwhile, will take the 2nd District Representative post after besting his two rivals.

The Marcoses ruled not only in the local elections but also in the national level as Imee is currently on the eight spot in the senatorial race, as of posting time. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
