The woman and her seven-month old infant were rescued after the former jumped off from a passenger vessel on Friday early morning.

The vessel left Cebu City for Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30.

Passenger JB Mamugay posted on his Facebook about the incident. He said it was the first the time an incident happened at  MV Lady of Joy of Medallion Transport Incorporated.

Mamugay narrated that at 7:40 a.m. on Friday,  May 31, 2019, while the vessel was near the Galas Port in Dipolog City,  a woman jumped into the sea while carrying her seven-month infant.

The vessel crew were alerted and rescued the woman and the infant.

Mamugay said there were medical doctors onboard the vessel who revived the infant.

Fellow passengers said the woman had an argument with her husband before she jumped ship.

It was learned that the mother had postpartum depression (PPD), a complex mix of physical, emotional, and behavioral changes that happen in a woman after giving birth.

Upon arrival at the port of Dipolog, the infant and the mother were brought to the nearest  hospital for further treatment. — BAP, GMA News
